New Holland 254 Tedder Manual
:: Author Message Dave in Southern Illinois Guest Posted: Wed Mar 14, 2012 9:21 am Post subject: New Holland 255 Tedder There is a New Holland 255 tedder coming up on a sale. Does anyone have any experience with one of them? Anything to look out for as far as wear and tear or expensive parts? What kind of price might I be looking at?
Thanks for any info. RodinNS Tractor Guru Joined: 01 Sep 2005 Posts: 15638 Posted: Wed Mar 14, 2012 10:25 am Post subject: Re: New Holland 255 Tedder Everything is expensive for them.
Everything wears out on them. I've got a 254 which is the older model of the 255. The 255 is probably not quite as bad as the 254 but it's still not something I would even remotely consider owning. It's one of the sorriest pieces of equipment NewHolland ever painted their name on.
If you need a tedder/rake combo, look for a PZ Haybob or one of it's knockoff's. Much more reliable and cheaper to maintain. Not sure who realy made it but pobably a dozen different names on the same basic machine, Befco, Sitrex, etc.
Very bullet proof. Dave in Southern Illinois Guest Posted: Thu Mar 15, 2012 9:16 am Post subject: Re: New Holland 255 Tedder Thanks for the info.
I may pass on the 255. Sounds like it could be a money pit. The value of the one pictured in $500 as is. They really don't do either job the best. I would just buy a tedder and rake separately.
The NH 255 is better than the early NH254 but both can be real money pits if not maintained correctly. As for a Haybob, I bought one years ago almost by accident. Have used it now for the last 7 or 8 years, very few problems, easy to fix. Turns out, Haybobs are the standard tool in europe for tedding hay. If you can find one they really work well. Saw a brand new KUHN, just like my old one on a dealers lot in Ramsey Indiana last year, so they are still making them.
Check them out on Youtube. Dave in Southern Illinois Guest Posted: Mon Mar 19, 2012 9:41 am Post subject: Re: New Holland 255 Tedder Well, the 255 went for $775. A practically new tedder very similar to the one in the picture (no name brand available) went for $1,700. A New Holland 156 in pretty good shape went for $1,400 and a like new Massey Ferguson 4 basket with hydraulic wings went for $2,400.
None of them went home with me though. A local dealer has a new Durabuilt for $2,350.
I didn't realize that they were worth nearly their weight in gold. Thanks for the information.
I will keep looking. Dave Display posts from previous: - All times are GMT - 8 Hours Page 1 of 1 Jump to: Most of our stocked parts ship within 24 hours (M-Th).
